The EC’s First Woman President
Ursula von der Leyen was elected as the next president of the European Commission on Tuesday, July 16th. She becomes the first woman to ever hold the position and the first German since Walter Hallstein, whose tenure lasted from 1958 to 1967. Politico has published a satirical piece featuring the kind of emails she can expect to receive from world leaders as she tries to build consensus with less of a mandate than her predecessor, Jean-Claude Juncker. Good luck with that!
